Some Exercise on Tense


TUTUN’S ACADEMY FOR LEARNING ENGLISH (TALE)  July Paper

A. Fill in the blanks with Present Indefinite Tense: [S+V1+O/C]

1. The cow  (give) us milk. 2. Every day he  (go) to school. 3. The boy always  (tell) a lie.  4. She generally  (speak) English fluently. 5. Sita never  (take) anything from anyone. 6. Ratan often  (read) story books. 7. Sometimes he  (love) to eat bitter. 8. She seldom  (watch) T.V. 9. They usually (sip) tea in the evening. 10. Dipak  (not teach) Mathematics.

B. Fill in the blanks with Present Continuous Tense: [S+be-verb (am, is, are)+V-ing+O/C]

1. We  (milk) our cows now. 2. He  (go) to school now. 3. The boy  (tell) a lie at this moment.  4. She (speak) English fluently. 5. Sita  (write) a letter at this moment. 6. Ratan  (read) a story book now. 7. He  (lie) on the bed. 8. She (watch) T.V. 9. They   (sip) tea in the evening. 10. Dipak  (not teach) Mathematics now.

C. Fill in the blanks with Present Perfect Tense: [S+have-verb(has/have)+V3+O/C]

1. We  (just buy) a book. 2. She  (write) a letter yet. 3. They  (go) to school. 4. I  (already come) to Kolkata. 5. Ram  (just reach) Puri. 6. They  (not call) the doctor yet. 7. Atin (take) the exam. 8. I  (give) her a pen. 9. Surya (break) the glass. 10. Rina (reach) his home just now.

D. Fill in the blanks with Present Perfect Continuous Tense: [S+have-verb (has/have)+been+V-ing+O/C]

1. I (write) a story for 10 days. 2. She (play) with her doll from the morning. 3. We (learn) English for years. 4. Hirak (suffer) from fever for 7 days. 5. They (read) from the evening. 6. Raja (eat) his meal for half an hour. 7. The tiger (look) for a prey since the night. 8. Simi (donate) money to the poor since childhood. 9. I (live) in this town since my birth. 10. The beggar (beg) at the station for years.

E. Fill in the blanks with Past Indefinite Tense: [S+V2+O/C]

1. She (work) hard last night. 2. Yesterday it (rain) hard. 3. Last week I (buy) the book. 4. He (write) this story two years ago. 5. The police (catch) the thief last night. 6. Yesterday Urmi (fall) asleep early. 7. Sritama (bring) chocolates for everyone today. 8. He (catch) the bus from Maldah. 9. We (win) the football match last year. 10. This year we (lose) the match.

F. Fill in the blanks with Past Continuous Tense: [S+be-verb(was/were)+V-ing+O/C]

1. We (milk) our cows. 2. He (go) to school. 3. The boy (tell) a lie.  4. She (speak) English fluently. 5. Sita  (write) a letter. 6. Ratan  (read) a story book. 7. He (lie) on the bed. 8. She (watch) T.V. 9. They   (sip) tea in the evening. 10. Dipak  (not teach) Mathematics.

G. Fill in the blanks with Past Perfect Tense: [S+have-verb(had)+V3+O/C]

1. I (reach) the station before it (start) raining. 2. The patient (die) before the doctor (come). 3. We (reach) the station after the train (arrive). 4. We (call) the police after Srijit (catch) the thief. 5. She (go) to Kolkata before he (leave) the city. 6. She (finish) the work before the load-shedding. 7. When Rik (come) out the bus (depart). 8. The patient (pass away) after the doctor (come). 9. She (prepare) herself for the exam before the vacation (start). 10. We (bring) the cake before the party.
