My Favourite Season

There are six seasons in the garland of Bengali year. Every season has its beauty and utility. Among six seasons  I like winter season the most which is called, by many, a dead season. It generally starts from December and lasts up to mid February. This season is characterized by coldness in the weather, fog and mist, dew-drops on the grass, falling of leaves and chilling northern wind. The days remain gloomy as the sun loses its brightness. Generally nights of winter are bigger than the day-time. People use woollens, shawls, rugs, quilt etc. to fight against coldness. I like the season the most because I can enjoy various kinds of vegetables and fruits like cauliflower, cabbages, carrots, peas, oranges, grapes, banana etc. Moreover, the pleasant sun and coldness in weather enable us to enjoy picnics, fairs, book fairs and different games like cricket, badminton etc. Every student like me awaits the season as the greatest festival of students, Saraswati Puja takes place. For all these, this season does not appear dead season to me and moreover I enjoy the season the most as I can lie and sleep under the quilt.

My Hobby

A hobby is an activity, done at a regular basis, especially in our leisure. Almost everyone has his own hobby. A hobby is not only a pastime but also has a utility. I have also a hobby and it is reading books. I grew this interest in this hobby when I was five years old. My father had given me a story book then on my birthday. The completion of the book grows my appetite for reading more books. Books give me pleasure, relaxation and moreover knowledge. By reading books I enrich my vocabulary, grammar, language and imagination. Thus my hobby does not kill my time only. It also helps to better my future.

Environmental Pollution

Pollution is the mixing of some harmful materials into the natural resources available on the earth. Pollution can be of many types like air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, noise pollution etc. Air pollution is increasing day by day because of the growing number of automobiles, release of poisonous gases, smoke from industrial companies etc in the atmosphere. Improper waste disposal, too much use of plastics and polythene, chemical fertilizers and pesticides also causes pollution and contaminates ground water. Excessive use of horns, microphones and loudspeakers, burning crackers causes noise pollution. It affects the ordinary living being on this planet by disturbing the natural life cycle and causes many health hazards.

This propitious festival marks the end of the month of Ramzan. After a full month of fasting, the Muslims of West Bengal look forward to the festive celebration with a heart full of cheerful ideas.Every home is illuminated with numbers of lamps and a grand display of fireworks is held. All cultural associations and groups in town and village celebrate these days with programmes of song, dance and drama composed by Tagore which run for days together. People buy new clothes, prepare mouth-watering dishes and sweets and visit each other. The festival is the most awaited occasion for everyone as not only the pandals, but the entire state gets sparkled and decorated with colourful lights and fragrance of joy. Television: Its Uses and Abuses

Television is a wonder of science. It is one of the most powerful mass media of modern times. Apart from being an effective medium of communication and entertainment, it influences and shapes our opinion. It gives us direct knowledge of things, places and events of various types. It gives us interesting and important information about things happening in far-off places. But televisions have some bad influences. It makes people idle, particularly students and young people. Some programmes, telecast on the TV, have baneful effects on the tender and young minds. Long hours of watching TV also affects our vision. It makes students neglect their studies and people neglect their duties. Thus TV has its deleterious and beneficial effects, and these depend upon how we use it.

Air pollution
Air pollution is one of the main environmental issues nowadays. There are many reasons behind regularly increasing this air pollution. Most of the air pollution is caused by the automobiles, transport means, industrialization, growing cities, etc. The release of several harmful gases or dangerous elements from such sources is causing the whole atmospheric air pollution. Ozone layer is also getting affected too much by the air pollution. Increasing need of the ever growing human population is the main cause of pollution, forcing the climate change negatively. In order to reduce the level of air pollution we should bring some huge changes to our habits on daily basis. We should not cut trees, use public transportation, avoid spray cans, and so many activities in the favour to reduce the effects of air pollution.

There is a flower garden in the heart of our town which is very beautiful and visited by many. The garden acted as the lung of the city and a boon to the people residing around it. Everywhere there are flowers, a very delightful scene to watch. The air in the garden smells of sweet perfume which refreshes the mind and freshens one up. The garden restores health of anything. Jasmines, Roses, Daisies, Narcissuses are a few of the species of flowers which can be seen. The green verdure and the multi-coloured flower beds are a paradise to the eyes. The simple and sweet chirping of the birds is pleasant to one’s ears.
