7th April: Recently the International Monetary Fund [IMF] in its report
has projected the Indian economy to contract by 4.5% in 2020, which is the slowest
Indian growth that it has in its record since 1961. Accompanied with a countrywide
lockdown, supply chain of food and essentials
have been disrupted. Unemployment is shooting up and economists has predicted dark
clouds of economic recession. The most risked group of people in the economy are
informal sector and daily wagers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced
Rs. 20 lakh crore economic stimulus package focusing on structural reforms in
various crucial sectors of the Indian economy. RBI has also taken initiative like
repo rate cut etc. But the new cases of Covid-19 in recent times the severity
of the current crisis is hard to predict.
