TRANSFORMATION RULES (PARTS OF SPEECH)

Sentence Transformation Complete Guide

Complete Sentence Transformation Guide

1. Adverbial Transformation ('in a/an...way/manner')

Structure: Subject + Verb + Adverb = Subject + Verb + in a/an + Adjective + way

Example: "He completed his assignment efficiently" → "He completed his assignment in an efficient way".

Bengali: সাধারণত বাক্যের শেষে কোনো Adverb-কে adjective করতে 'in a/an...way/manner' ব্যবহার করা যায়।

2. Nominalization (Adjective to Noun)

Structure: Subject + Verb + Adverb/Adj = Possessive Adjective + Noun + be-verb + Adjective

Example: "He acted recklessly" → "His action was reckless".

Bengali: Noun-এ পরিণত করার সময় Possessive Pronoun এবং 'be-verb' ব্যবহার করতে হয়।

Remind the following NOTE

NOTE: এই ধরণের বাক্যের গঠনকে ইংরেজিতে "Light Verb Construction" বা "Delexicalized Verb" বলা হয়। এখানে মূল অর্থটি Verb-এর বদলে Noun-এর মধ্যেই লুকিয়ে থাকে, আর Verb-টি শুধু বাক্য গঠনের জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Detailed Explanation:

English: In these constructions, the verb (give, take, have, etc.) loses its original heavy meaning (e.g., 'give' does not always mean to donate) and serves as a functional connector to introduce a noun. This pattern is used to make a sentence sound more descriptive, formal, or emphatic by shifting the focus from the action to the result or the experience of the action.

Examples:

  • Give: "He smiled at me" → "He gave me a sweet smile". | "They shouted loudly" → "They gave a loud shout".
  • Take: "She walked in the morning" → "She took a morning walk". | "I looked at the picture" → "I took a look at the picture".
  • Have: "We dreamt of a bright future" → "We had a dream of a bright future". | "They quarrelled yesterday" → "They had a quarrel yesterday".
  • Make: "He suggested a plan" → "He made a suggestion for a plan". | "She mistook the person" → "She made a mistake in identifying the person".
  • Do: "He exercised for an hour" → "He did some exercise for an hour". | "Please favor me" → "Please do me a favor".
  • Get: "He shivered in fear" → "He got a shiver of fear". | "I glimpsed him" → "I got a glimpse of him".

Summary Rule: Action (Verb) → Light Verb + Noun

Bengali Summary: কাজের রূপকে (Action) Noun-এ রূপান্তর করার মাধ্যমে বাক্যটিকে আরও প্রাঞ্জল ও আনুষ্ঠানিক করে তোলা হয়।

***********************************************************

  • Adverb: "They responded immediately".
  • Adjective (with 'give'): "They gave an immediate response".
  • Adjective (Predicate): "Their response was immediate".

#########################################################

Structure: Though + S + V + Adj → Despite + Possessive + Noun + ... + Noun

Example: "Though the man was poor, he was honest" → "Despite the man's poverty, he had honesty".

Tense Consistency Rule

Note: যে Tense-এ আছে সেটা লিখবো।

Bengali: বাক্য পরিবর্তনের সময় মূল বাক্যের Tense কোনোভাবেই পরিবর্তন করা যাবে না।
